faster frame rates and no blurry textures...read on

Post by Glenn H »

Whilst browsing the flightsim.com forums i came across this thread that claims to increase the performance of FS9 by editing certain parameters in the FS9.cfg file. Having seen similar threads on other forums i was sceptical but decided to try it anyway, the amount of 'Happy simmer`s' reporting good results with these edits made me try it. I applied the edits and noticed an immediate improvement both in framerates and stutters, some users were reporting big improvements and the same was true for me. At Heathrow (using UK2000 Scenery) i used to get between 8-10 FPS with Ultimate Traffic set at 50% and ASV running, after the edits i now get between 10-15 FPS, stutters are now much, much less than before and the whole sim feels fluid and smooth. If your not happy with your sim performance then i urge you to try this, It really dose work.

I'm not exactly 100% sure of what to do? Do I copy the excerpt from the .cfg file on the post and into my .cfg?

I'm pretty sure that the letters A), B), C), D) are the instructions, just a little iffy.

And help would be appreciated. Thanks :)

What i done was to find the entries in my fs9.cfg and then just changed those that needed to be changed, i only had to change a couple of entries as most of them were the same as what is in the thread on flightsim.com forums. One setting i did have to change was TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=512, this in my original cfg was set to 1024 so i changed it to 512. Another setting i changed was TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=140, the original setting was 40.
Hope this helps.

hey guys ..
well i have been having a problem with my fs thats been really annoying me. whenever i am flying .. every 2 minutes textures would re load and it takes forever, and often the simulator just crashes. this has only been happening for the past couple of days, even though i havent downloaded nor installed anything in the past few weeks.
and when it crashes an error comes up saying .. your computer is running low on virtual memory !!!!!!
keep in my mind that i shut down all other running programs before i launch flight simulator ... so i don tknow what whats the deal really !
but .. it looks like this tip u have here might help, but i have no idea where to find the fs9 configuratin file .. if anybody would tell me where i will find it .. that will be great :)
and if u have any other suggestions to my problem .. plz dont hesitate to share them ;)
thanx a lot,
later,

You need more RAM. Or, you could go to the system config and increase your virtual memory, but that won't help too much.

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9\FS9.cfg

Make a backup of the file before you start modifying it so you can go back if necessary.

Trust me-it's there.

Stupid question, but are you replacing "[username]" with your computer username, making sure "C:\" is the drive where your FS is, etc.? That's all I can think of...

So I edited the fs9 file, but it still had some shutters to it..

When he talks about editing the view stuff, where is he talking about? (Step B)

I think it is. I never tried it though. (Those Viruses/Spyware would not have a chance with stuff on my PC)

Tried it, but when I went into the display settings and changed the settings back to how I wanted them before, I noticed the fs9.cfg changed back to the original also, so really this is just a way to change your settings in the display settings menu in FS.
