Windows 7 Anyone?
Has anyone ordered their copy of Windows 7 or is looking to upgrade when it is released in October? Feedback so far suggests that it is a lot quicker than Vista and XP, although I did not try the BETA version.
I'm all for buying it when it comes out, but I'm worried about certain addons for FS9. What is everyone else's stance on this?

Re: Windows 7 Anyone?
I wouldn't buy a new OS until I have extensively tried it out on someone else's computer.
I'm still on XP and I never got Vista because when I tested it, I found it was awful.
At present if I got a new PC built, I would still have XP installed.

Alex, I've been using Windows 7 since May. Almost every single addon works, with the exception of editvoicepack. Trust me, buy it. It's well worth the price and it's 10x better than XP and 100x better than Vista. To top it all off, when building a system or hooking up a printer, all the drivers are pre-installed with the software.
FSX runs well (I got a bad copy from Microsoft, so I'm trying to get a new copy along with acceleration from a friend), and FS9 is absolutely phenomenal.
But I'm warning you, buy the 32-bit. Otherwise, nothing FS Related will work.

Re: Windows 7 Anyone?
My only gripe about Vista is that it forced me to switch to FSX since less than half of my FS9 addons worked with it (at least initially). I have settled down with Vista and don't plan on upgrading to Windows 7 until I get another computer, which may not be any time soon. I would much rather switch to Linux, though.

Hmmm... if I were to switch OS I would opt for 64-bit, as I see that as the way forward, but now that you've said that... Has anyone used 64-bit Windows 7 successfully with FS9? Is it the same compatiblity as XP or Vista 64-bit?DMM200 wrote:Alex, I've been using Windows 7 since May. Almost every single addon works, with the exception of editvoicepack. Trust me, buy it. Re: Windows 7 Anyone?
I would be very interested in upgrading both Windows XP (laptop) and Vista (desktop) to Windows 7. I've seen the graphics and they look way better than any of these. Like Alex mentioned, I am concerned about FS and other programs. Will they remain compatible or will some issue emerge?
What's the price for Windows 7?

Hmm..... get shinier new interface or have to reinstall EVERYTHING on an untested and unproven platform.
Nope. That won't be happening, at least not on my FS machine. I may eventually move the other PCs to 7 IF and a BIG IF, it proves worthy.
I have XP working how I like it, it's relatively stable, everything is installed and working nicely, etc.

I've heard nothing but praises for Win 7, mainly how it's what Vista was supposed to be. My laptop, which came with Vista, is eligible for a free upgrade to Win 7 when it comes out, and I have every intention on taking advantage of it.

Are all recent Vista systems eligible for a free upgrade? My desktop was purchased with Vista in late-May/early June.NWADC9 wrote:I've heard nothing but praises for Win 7, mainly how it's what Vista was supposed to be. EDIT: Never mind. Late June is more likely

Re: Windows 7 Anyone?
There is an intersting article about backwards compatibility here: http://windows7news.com/2008/04/09/wind ... atibility/
Basically, Windows 7 will be different to previous versions of Windows as it uses virtualisation to run older programs. In other words it will just be like running a program in 'Windows XP mode', instead of trying to incoporate the program into the OS.

Re: Windows 7 Anyone?
Yikes, gotta see if my laptop can handle it. If not, Vista is as high as I'll go with it. With a 1.6GHz processor, I don't think Win7 will be much help.

Re: Windows 7 Anyone?
I know a couple of people who've tested it out and they said it ran just as good if not better tha XP. However, this was only the BETA, so with lots of programs and things installed it might run slower.

Not really, it runs like a charm, and I have installed many programs onto my computer. And it is the RC, so it's about 85-95% of what the final product will be like.FJ flyer wrote:I know a couple of people who've tested it out and they said it ran just as good if not better tha XP.
