Probably not, what do you really gain? Yes, Linux is a nice platform but what would you use it for? Plus having to reboot every time you need to do something in Windows is pretty annoying.
I have dual boot installed on both my Macs (Mac Pro and the MacBook Pro) and seldom use it unless I feel the need for some gaming or a LAN party. For all other things I use OSX and for minor Windows tasks, I have a program that allows me to run XP apps in OSX. (Like Office 2003 for Windows in OSX)

Re: Is it a virus?
Sorry to bring this back up from the near dead, but an update:
Apparently, two Trojans were found stowed away inside Windows files, and every time Windows started, they also kicked in, long before the anti-virus software could detect anything. So, my laptop will get Windows XP re-installed (some files were corrupted) and hopefully everything should be back to normal. If this fails to address the issue, then a format will be in place followed by Windows Vista. So, only one week before I can fly the skies again.

Re: Is it a virus?
Final update: computer is back good as new. Got more than what I bargained for: XP Professional. Unfortunately, all data was lost so it'll be a couple of days before my laptop is up to date with the programs. As for FS, I had the files stored in an external HD so all I need to do is install both FS9 and FSX and I'll be good to go (and I'll need to find the disk for the joystick too). YIKES!!

Good to hear everything worked out well. It's a good feeling to start with a blank canvas to install programs and add data etc., but it can take a long time. I will most likely be doing this later next month if I get Windows 7.

Re: Is it a virus?
If Windows 7 is as good as they say it is, I may just do a complete switch. The only thing holding me back is FS. I think my laptop will barely be able to run Windows 7, let alone FSX on Windows 7. As for the laptop..man that thing is quick. I've never seen a start-up and shut down on it as quick as I've seen recently.

This is true, I'm two years into the current install of XP (a new record) and I'm STILL finding things I haven't moved over to the new install yet.sanins192 wrote:It's a good feeling to start with a blank canvas to install programs and add data etc., but it can take a long time.
Mostly more obscure payware and scenery but it comes up surprisingly often.
I'm overdue for a total wipe but at the moment, am FAR too lazy to do it. FS only takes 9 minutes to load to the menu!
