I looked under the Pan Am flights,and found..

a JFK-LAX flight,with a B727-100 for the equipment.A 727-200 yes,but not a 100.
I knew pilots that flew the 100 series..KLAX-KORD or KDTW was ok,but not to the East Coast..

I even tried it in simulator..KJFK-KLAX..Had to divert to Salt Lake,as low on fuel

Am i wrong Aaron?
