Ghost files

Post by RatherBFlyin »

Well, I downloaded and installed a screenshot utility (MWSnap) and took some test screenshots on my latest flight. The problem is that I can't find them. The utility says they were saved, and I can open them and edit them using GIMP, but when I pull up my Windows Explorer window and go to the folder they were saved in, I can't find them. Very odd. I know that hidden files/folders are supposed to be visible, but these ones just don't show up at all. What am I missing?

Hmm, I changed the folder that the screenshots were being saved into, and now they appear to be showing up like normal in the Windows Explorer. Very odd.

Not really. It was simply that it was saving onto another folder. The same thing happens whenever I download things with Firefox. There's supposed to be a temp folder, yet whenever I searched for it with IE Explorer, it never appeared. It wasn't until I wrote the full direction (c/user/windows...blah blah) that I found the folder.

Well, if it was saving to another folder, then the other program (GIMP) should have had trouble finding it too, right? I was using the exact same process to drill down to the folder I wanted with all three methods (MWSnap, GIMP, and Windows Explorer), and only one of them was having trouble finding the files. I dunno. Windows is silly sometimes.

Even when you opened the file with the GIMP then went to Save As and looked for the original source file, was it not there?

I tried overwriting the original file with GIMP, and it still did not appear in Windows Explorer. It wasn't until I changed the location that the screenshots were saved to (I actually created a subfolder inside the default folder) that I was able to find them using WE.

Hmmm. That's weird. As long as it's working now, though.
