Another reason to hate Microsoft. Let's see if Apple can counter.

I was reading the POSKY forums and some people are suggest that ACES could form a new company themselves and contract to Microsoft who would keep the franchise, and ship it.

Apple will definitely not takeover the FS line-they don't make a single game and FS is unfortunately not their type of product.

I wouldn't say "unfortunately".

I, for one, would definitely not want to shell out for a Mac with equivalent capabilities to my current PC. I think I'd be paying off the debt for the rest of my life

Well if ACES formed together, worked on it, no doubt it will still have the entire FS community behind the product noh?. Their is no denying it. It's just a matter of if they can do it without Microsofts endorsement i guess. - And if it can even compare.

Their will always be a market for Flight Simulation (no doubt!), i would guess after a couple of years someone will simply pick up the pieces if it even gets to that, and go where they left off. If this is all the bad news it is, give it a couple of years, i reckon, at least.

Cost cutting and all that, once things get better, sure! likely things will come together.

Obama Save the Economy! Save FS!

Will FS9 be the last good release of FS ?

- It Is isn't it?

The question I have not seen answered yet is whether or not the devs at ACES had to sign a non-compete contract. Those generally stipulate that after leaving employment the person cannot work in the same, or a related, industry for a certain period of time, typically from two to five years. Unfortunately non-competes are becoming much more common, so I will not be surprised if they are a factor in here somewhere.

It's bad enough being fired let alone being told you couldn't work in the same industry. I hope that is not the case here...not for my own sake but for their's.

I agree with Tim! Usually a company like Microsoft will have everyone sign a Non-Compete Agreement which they will have to honor for a certain period of time (2-5years) unless they can find a loophole somewhere in the legalese.....within time!

Well all this is a turn up for the worst but, if FSX is the last flight sim then in the future we'd be running Intel core 10 decos or similar( ) in the future and we'd run FSX easily, but Simwings, Aerosoft etc... hasnt shut down and they'l keep producing Better FS addons which we will buy and in time with all the addons on FSX with core 10 decos and Nvidia 88,000GTs or whatever the future plans, then FSX will be as good as FS15. 8)

To be fair, it would probably help. If you think about it, if MS stop making newer versions of flight Sims, the add-on developer market would flourish, meaning we could have reams of add-ons that work for years to come, not having to live with the fear that MS will bring out a new version of FS that makes our beloved PMDG 747-400 out-of-date. We would just have to self-build from here on. I use FS9 all the time and I'm yet to but a copy of FSX (not because my PC would run it, because it would and well, but because I have so many non-FS9 compatible add-ons.

Well, if Microsoft stops making versions of flight simulator, Im happy with FS9 seeing as theres many addons for it and not really anything works for FSX unless you know how to tweak it to make it work.

Well this is not great news.
My disc #4 is looking alittle beat up and I am wondering if there is
a downloadable copies of FS9 that one could purchase from Microsoft.

If not then I fear that in the future things will get to the point that it will be
impossible to continue playing and it will be very hard for us find new pilots.

Maybe someplace online still sells FS9. Might be wise to get an extra copy and keep it locked away.
