How To Paint Aircraft For MSFS

Post by FJ flyer » 22 Jan 2009, 04:24

A couple of people have hinted that they would like to have a crack at repainting aircraft to help with the large number of aircraft missing throughout the airlines of SimAirline.net.

I really don't have the time to write a full tutorial, so I'll show you the tutuorial that kicked me off and got me going.

Before I do that, I would like to reccommend that you have a long play with your grpahic editor before starting to paint. For example, create a couple of logos or images so you know excactly how the editor likes to run - after all it is the boss, and if you use it correctly you produce great work. Play with each and every single effect and tool, know excactly what you can and can't do with it. The reason for this is so you know how to create a certain effect on the livery, you know how to use each tool and effect, and most important of all, you know what it'll look like.

Here are the links:

This tutuorial is aimed at users with Photoshop. If you don't have Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, or any other payware image editor, I suggest you download GIMP it is 100% free and is similar to PhotoShop. Theer is even a version which makes GIMP look like PhotoShop, see here: http://www.gimpshop.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The person who created this tutorial unfortunately never finished it. When you get to the fourth tutorial pm or email me and I'll guide you through the last steps.

I would suggest for the first paint you start with a relatively easy paint, like Lufthansa which doesn't require too much whirly bits that are difficult to paint. I also reccomend starting with an non-complicated paint-kit aswell, I suggest the Project Airbus A319 paint kit.

Any questions about absolutely anything to do with aircraft repainting, just PM, or email me.

Be paitent, keep trying, and once you get the jist of how to paint it'll become so much easier.

Aaron, I think it'd be handy if this was stickyed so it doesn't get lost down below.

If you wanna try something REALLY easy, go AI! Everything is in one texture, and on some textures, the fuselage isn't cut in half. I started my layered paintkit repainting on the HTAI Cessna 208B. Piece of cake.

Found another one...

Very good tutorial for beginner painters dealing with a layered paint-kit. If you've very wanted to start this is probably the best, complete tutorial out there.
