Re: My share & comments about SimAirline.net's closure in April

Good vibes moving forward, Ali. Great story. Some of us sim for a segue into an eventual career. Others of us do it as a way of reviving a lost dream of some kind. Whatever the reason, it'll be hard to find a well-run "conglom VA" that's both professional and relaxed, and I know that there are some ...

Re: Republic Airways to Purchase 10 EMB 190AR from US Airways

Saw a Midwest E190 today as I left work; my new office borders the south side of KPHX. The Midwest paint job looks smart on the Jungle Jet.

Destination of the Week - Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

The City of Bulawayo Bulawayo is the second largest city in Zimbabwe, after the capital Harare, and has long been regarded as the business capital of the country. Bulawayo is home to the National Railways of Zimbabwe because of its strategic position near Botswana and South Africa. It is the neares...

Will all of this be rendered moot when WN really ramps up at MKE, though?

Destination of the Week - Adak, Alaska

The Island of Adak Adak Island is located near the western extent of the Andreanof Islands group of the Aleutian Islands. Alaska's southernmost town, also named Adak, is located on the island. The island has a land area of 275 square miles (711 km²), making it the 25th largest island in the United ...

Re: Icelandair coming to Seattle

Indeed a very odd choice of destination, if SAS can't make money with all of it's options in connecting and local passengers... I don't see how Icelandair can, maybe with the 757, I'm not sure. Let's think this through. 757 vs A343: It is a matter of operating economics, primarily; 2 engines vs 4, ...

Re: Marriage terms

I also heard many things from the OT whenever I went to Catholic church That's because there is always one reading from each testament in Catholic Mass, and a second from the NT if it's Sunday. The second reading is non-gospel, and usually an epistle, but can occasionally be from Acts or Revalation...

Re: Icelandair coming to Seattle

Blame it on SAS leaving Seattle, and the fact that their A340's would be supplanted by more efficient 757's to BIKF, where there would be connections available to several different European cities, including all of the Scandinavian capitals, London, Paris, Frankfurt, and a few seasonal leisure desti...

Re: This'll Make Seagullz Happy - Icelandair to SEA

LOL. Somebody DID beat me to the punch on this story after all; they just did not publish it in Industry News, where it belongs. I've already made the thread there, so perhaps this one should be locked/moved/merged.

Icelandair coming to Seattle

I have been tracking the story all day, and am a bit surprised that nobody has beaten me to the punch in bringing it to this forum. Read the linked sources and reader commentary, as there is definitive confirmation contained therein: http://blogs.usatoday.com/sky/2009/03/seattle-to-anno.html#uslPage...

In order: Las Vegas, Seattle, DC

If it were only about the plane-spotting, it'd be St Maarten.

Re: SimAirline.net 2010 Convention?

Seattle is a good option, but creates a logistics issue with ground transportation to/from the Boeing facility in Everett. The Museum of Flight at Boeing Field is all ground accessable easily enough from nearby Sea-Tac International, so there is a good synergy there. Seattle is absolutely gorgeous i...

Re: SimAirline.net 2010 Convention?

Vegas is served globally. There's service from Japan, the UK, Germany, Canada and all of the USA. If one keeps the event to a minimum in ATL or NYC, that's all well and good, but will be a much tougher sell. Vegas can offer tiers for all and still keep it clean.

Re: SimAirline.net 2010 Convention?

You guys don't know Vegas. Gambling is still at the center, but is really much less of the facade than it used to be. I see our youngest folks coming in and out over the weekend, or even the same day. We do all of the Sim Airline stuff on Saturday, and the ancillary activities on Thursday, Friday an...

Re: SimAirline.net 2010 Convention?

As for the questions: -Would you be likely to come? Why or why not? Yes, if Vegas, probably ATL, but not NYC or London. -Would you be willing to help organize part of the event? Of course, I like this sort of thing. -What sort of events should we offer? This is where the Vegas argument carries the m...

Re: SimAirline.net 2010 Convention?

So far, it would seem that a rather obvious location has been overlooked. The tight economy means deals aplenty, for both air and hotel to Las Vegas. Planespotting at McCarran can be done from some cool hotel rooms on the strip (Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Tropicana), with the ability to party and sim thus...

Y'all are wimps by comparrison. I've survived 8.1 on the Richter scale in my native Los Angeles. My band once played right through a 6.0 without missing a beat. We've gotta hear from some Tokyo and Mexico City residents here; those folks know what a big shaker is too.
