Re: UPS 744 Crash in Dubai
Update- Apparently the flight was full of lithium batteries. Expect tighter regulation of them in the future. Sidenote- I managed to stop by the memorial in the flight crew weather room at SDF, and it was very nice. Your lives were not lost in vain.

New beginnings:
Gentlemen (and ladies?):
It's official-
1. I will be starting training on May 24th, to fly the Shorts 360 for air cargo carriers.
2. I have been accepted and awarded a flight slot to begin training in the KC-135 early next year.
Soon, I'll be able to say that Ali flies a "light twin." :P

8 years later...
If I recall correctly, I joined this Virtual Airline in 2002. I was not a real life pilot at the time, and the guidance and friendship of the board members was very instrumental to me becoming a pilot. These forums (well, the last version archive anyway) have records of my first solo, private pilot ...

Re: ATC training
the PC12
The PC-12 would do fine, it's approach speed would be low since all single engine (normal category) airplanes have to stall at 61 knots or less.
You guys can do 50 in the pattern?? How big's the loop?
Or is there a holding pattern to sort everything out?
Heaven's no, LOL, not 50 in ...

Re: ATC training
It gets really interesting here at BVI when everyone's coming back from their block and there's planes in the pattern.
I don't know how many planes you guys have, but come check us out on a busy day, at about 45 past the hour. 50 planes, flying at different speeds (From Cirrus/Twins at 120-100 in ...

Re: ATC training
One of the few places where you'll see student controllers controlling student pilots in real life (and believe me, some of those kids are idiots, both in the cab and in the cockpit).
There are trainee controllers all over the place- we have 2 in the tower at AZO. I tend to avoid that airport ...

Re: Delta B767 landing practice in BTL
That makes sense- although there is a huge maint. facility at BTL, it sure isn't a Delta one.

Re: Delta B767 landing practice in BTL
Any reason for them doing patterns at Battle Creek instead of somewhere else?
I heard they had been doing it at other places as well, my guess for Battle Creek is that they saw the 10,000 foot runway and figured it wasn't too busy. I'm sure they would have went somewhere else if the weather had ...

Re: 2008 BA Boeing 777 Heathrow crash: Air traffic control
Is this a normal occurrence to fly big jets on a visual approach?
Short answer- Yes. The approach in use has to do with the weather and traffic conditions into the airport at the time, the aircraft type or size has no relevance. If the controllers would make a 172 fly an ILS, they'll make an A380 ...

Delta B767 landing practice in BTL
So we had a Delta 767 come in for a few trips in the pattern today in Battle Creek. They picked a good day for it- icing conditions were keeping most of our fleet on the ground. I could only imagine if the weather had been good- "Delta 9984 Heavy, number 4 behind a Cirrus, cleared for touch and go ...
