To All Of Our Pilots,
Every month seems to bring new highs for
our organization, a positive sign of continual growth. This month saw new
highs in Flight Hours, Flying Pilots, and PIREPs. Individually, Concorde,
Delta, and Northwest all reached new heights in November. There's lots
of news to report, so enjoy reading about our future plans.
Midway Virtual Airlines to Reopen
Due to the positive poll results, we have
decided to reopen our second virtual airline, Midway Virtual Airlines.
The virtual airline was based on the real Midway Airlines of Raleigh-Durham,
NC, and operated mainly to East Coast U.S. destinations. The virtual airline
closed in October 2001 after our operations plummeted due to the real airline's
closing. We will need a Fleet
Manager for Midway.
Annual Survey Online
For the last few years, we've asked out
pilots to fill out a survey around this time of year to help determine
our priorities for the next year. This year's survey can be found here.
Please take the time to fill it out to help improve SimAirline.net even
further.
Discontinued Routes Under Consideration
We are currently considering allowing
pilots to fly routes of our airlines that still fit within their current
network plan, but that they no longer operate. We currently have a list
of over 250 routes, and should we decide to offer these routes, they would
begin being added in January.
Winter Schedules Forthcoming for Sabena
and Swissair
After much research, I've obtained the
final winter schedule for Sabena and Swissair. We hope to eventually put
this schedule online so we can have even more accurate operations for Sabena
Virtual and Swissair Virtual.
Concorde Virtual Shows Success
After several months of little activity,
Concorde Virtual finally showed its promise the month after Concorde's
retirement. November's activity is what we were hoping for and expecting
when we opened the virtual airline in June. Credit must go to the management
members who helped on the project in its early stages, Ali Abou-Zeid, Bryan
O'Donnell, and Philippe Depireux, who did not see successful results of
their work until now.
Update on Codeshare Negotiations
Last month, I reported that we were looking
at codeshare agreements with six other virtual airlines in an effort to
expand our flight options to our pilots. At this time, we are in negotiations
with two virtual airlines, have our proposal under consideration from one,
are awaiting a response from another, were rebuffed by one, and decided
not to propose to one. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide further
information to you about the identities of these virtual airlines for the
time being.
Northwest Virtual to Begin Rebranding
Since Northwest has been using their new
livery and corporate signage for several months, Northwest Virtual will
follow suit shortly and begin the transition to the new logos and colors.
Photos on the fleet pages will not be updated until January at the earliest.
Aircraft Retirements
KLM retired its 747-300 fleet today, which
was replaced by the new 777-200ERs. Delta will be retiring its last MD-11
in January, and it will be replaced on the Atlanta-Tokyo route by the 777-200ER.
Terminal Maps
After many delays because of more important
updates, the Terminal Maps section will continue expanding this month.
Expect maps to be added at a rate of about one per day.
Personal Travel
My trip on Continental from Minneapolis-St.
Paul to Washington was scheduled to be through Cleveland, but my connecting
airport changed to Newark. You can read about my trip here.
I will be returning on United in January, so if you wish to meet me at
Washington National, Chicago O'Hare, or Minneapolis-St. Paul, please let
me know.
Management Hiring
We are always in need of new people to
fill management roles, and are currently hiring for five positions. If
you are interested, please go here.
Please be sure to take the time to fill
our our survey. It will be online for the entire month, and the results
of it will help determine the direction we wish to take and what our focuses
for future growth should be. Thank you for continuing to support SimAirline.net
and its virtual airlines.
