About Us

ANA Virtual is based on Asia's third largest airline, All Nippon Airways, which operates an extensive domestic network within Japan as well as international service. ANA Virtual also includes the operations of affiliated companies Air Central, Air Japan, Air Next, Air Nippon, Air Nippon Network, and IBEX. ANA Virtual is the first and only ANA-based virtual airline.

ANA was founded in 1952 as the Japan Helicopter and Aeroplane Transport Company (JHATC), and began airline services the following year. JHATC changed its name to All Nippon Airways in 1957. Mergers involved other domestic carriers, Far East Airlines (1957), Fukita (1963), Central Japan (1965) and Nagasaki Airlines (1967).

Air Nippon is ANA's primary regional affiliate, and began flying in 1973. With the liberalization of Japan's international airline policy, ANA was allowed to expand from its strong domestic base in 1986, and today operates international services to Asia, Europe, Oceania, and the U.S. ANA also joined the Star Alliance in 1999, and was the launch customer for the 787 in 2004.
