About Us
Air
Canada Virtual is based on Canada's largest airline and its regional affiliates.
The virtual airline includes the operations of Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz,
Air Georgian, Central Mountain Air, and Exploits Valley Air Services.
Air Canada was founded in 1937 as Trans-Canada
Airlines, a subsidiary of Canadian National Railway. The first flight,
from Vancouver to Seattle, was on 1 September 1937. The airline was the
largest in Canada by the time it changed names to Air Canada in 1965. Privatization
occured in 1989 and Air Canada was a founding member of the Star Alliance
in 1997. Air Canada acquired the country's second largest airline, Canadian
Airlines, in January 2000. Air Canada recently adopted a new livery and
logotype in October 2004.
Air Canada Jazz was formed in January 2001
from the combination of Air BC, Air Nova, Air Ontario, and Canadian Regional.
The consolidation of the four regional airlines was completed in 2002,
and the carrier serves as Air Canada's primary regional affiliate.
